I usually start from an existing mesh that was made in Maya. Everything you see here is about 80% Zbrush. This includes sculpting, color and posing. When it comes to hard surface elements like the Robot Dog, those would be done in Maya. I added the color and materials in Zbrush.
Wow, wonderful stylized work! Lots of emotion and character in the poses and facial expressions. Are these concept sculpts or were they made into the final character models?
Shared this on our tumblr page. Hope you don't mind. You have some fantastic work! http://cybersponge94.tumblr.com/post/34635200001/check-out-these-cool-cg-models-for-wreck-it-ralph
If anyone is interested. I might be teaching a character modeling class on Animsquad in a mouth or two. Ill post here when its a go and give you more details!
Hi Chad, digital art student from Mexico here , if i want to build a modeling portfolio for Disney what should i include, sculpts like yours in zbrush with proper topology, and also my models should be like stilyzed characters that match disney´s or they can be realistic, can i specify only on character models or i should also learn hardcore hardmodeling techniques for enviros?, thanks for your time!, looking forward for your work in zootopia! :)
Yeah. Your on the right path. Stylized character models, posed with appealing believable expressions. We do have modelers that specialize in either characters or environments. If you can do both at an A level, then that's gold! But usually our top modelers are really focused on either characters or environments. Adding good examples of anatomy is a big plus. Efficient topology layout. A design of a character and your execution of it.
Ok We are finalizing the details behind this class Click the link below for more details. If you have any questions about the class. Feel free to ask them here Thanks Chad
Chad, those are pretty neat sculpts, I am curious of your process, how much of Zbrush is there compared to Maya, thanks.
